I’ve begun the Learn WordPress Journey and I hope to track my progress on this website, which is also my learning and first website. At the moment this endeavor has at least three objectives.
- To provide a practice/trial site to help me learn WordPress
- To be a repository for all the things I’m learning (I hope it can be my personal knowledge base.)
- I’m teaching a History class at my granddaughter’s home school coop and I hope to also create a space to present lesson content to the students and allow them to interact with what they are learning.
So far I’ve been at this on and off for three days and at this moment I have to say I’m a bit frustrated there are a lot of things about the WordPress backend that don’t work the way I’m expecting them to. However, I have to admit it has been rather hit and miss between other projects, there is a WordPress paradigm that takes time to learn and hey, I am to the place where I’m actually writing my first blog!
So what have I done so far?
- I found the free WordPress Beginner Training at www.academy.yoast.com and began the coarse.
- I also found some beginner advice at www.wpbeginner.com and chose to take advantage of the beginner package at www.bluehost.com where I registered my domain name and set up this website
- As I work my way through the Yoast lessons, I’ve chosen a timeline plugin to practice plugins on and installed it. I am now trying to incorporate it as my learning journey timeline.
